Day 13~ Driving to Spokane, Washington
We are still alive despite drinking the Smirnoff. Mostly just driving today and staying
overnight at Spokane. We don’t really
even plan to see anything much in Washington.
Our next big event will be Crater Lake in 2 days.
We had some hairpin turns getting out of Glacier. Mike said the alternate route he found is
about the same as The Road Going to the Sun. There are no guardrails! The road drops down the mountain about 8,000
feet. I snapped some pictures, but since
I am in the backseat, to give Harrison more leg room, it is hard to see from my
pictures just how dangerous these curves are.
Me: Michael, be very, very careful here. The kids
and I know someone who died right here in this area.
Michael: You do not!
Me: Yes, we do!
Did.
Michael: Who?
Me: You don’t know her.
Michael: You are so full of baloney!
Who was it?
Me: Well, it was a character in a book, but
still…….It might have been based on a true story! (By the way, if you have never read the
children’s book, Walk two Moons, it is a great read!

Me: I hate to say this so soon,
but I have to pee already.
Mike: No, you can’t. I am not
stopping. There is no room for erosion
on this road.
We saw the world’s largest purple spoon. Really we did. I should have taken a picture. Nothing else for me to do in the backseat
since WiFi was limited last night, I couldn’t download stuff from the library
onto my Nook.
We crossed the Continental Divide.
We drove up a mountain and down a mountain a bazillion
times.
We finally arrived at Spokane KOA about 2 hours later than
what Google predicted. Not a new
story. We had a quick dinner of chili
and cornbread. We tried to use the WiFi,
but it wasn’t strong enough to even check email. Natalie and I did our jogging around the
campground, and we went to bed early after showers. Not much to post or see.
We have now moved through 3 time zones. We started in Eastern, moved to Central, then
Mountain, and now we are in Pacific, so we are going to bed very early and
leaving very early according to local standards. We kind of don’t want to change time zones so
we are early at Disneyland when we arrive!
The scenery isn’t amazing.
The campground isn’t that clean.
The crapbag here was that we were right next to a train track. And when I say “next to a train track”, I
mean like 25 yards from the train track.
I counted 7 trains that blew their whistle on their way through this
night.
It wasn’t that bad.
The weather was nice. We didn’t
cry when we left, though.
