Day 29 ~Visalia ~ Catching Up Day
Not very much interesting happening today. We really have done almost all of Sequioa
National Park and Kings Canyon already.
The only part left was a very remote area on dirt roads. We figured that part would be like Hetch
Hetchy in Yosemite. Plus it would be a 2
and half hour drive one way to get there from the campground, so we decided to
use this Saturday to regroup.
We slept in a little…..not too long because we didn’t want
to have to do our work during the hottest part of the day. The nights and mornings are fairly cool.
When it got hot, we went to Walmart to get groceries. Mike found a different Walmart that had an
automotive department. He got the tires
rotated and an oil change. Even though
we got new tires before we left home and an oil change, we have put on almost
7,000 miles so far!
Unfortunately, this Walmart had a sub par grocery
department. I got a few things, but
still would have to go to a different Walmart to get the rest. The only perishables I am going to buy in the
grocery department will be cheese. I
think cheese will be OK if the temperature wavers. In this Southern California
heat, I have had grave concerns about how cool our electric cooler is keeping
the food. We have used up everything in
the cooler and washed it out. Mike and
the kids are going to eat PBJ’s for lunch all week. I am going to get bean dip and tortillas
since I don’t care for PBJ. Each dinner
will be made from canned goods, and meat will be tuna or canned chicken.
We went to the other Walmart to get fresh fruit, but I only
bought minimal amounts because it was pretty much a rip off. A pound of cherries was 7.00, and peaches
were 2.00 per piece. I am surprised that
fruit in California is more expensive than in Indiana. I just bought a bunch of canned fruit at the
regular Indiana price to get us through the week. While we won’t be eating fine cuisine this
week, we will have Monday eating at Disneyland, which will be a fantastic
treat!
Then we went to church so we wouldn’t have to deal with that
on moving day, tomorrow. It had a very
strong Spanish influence. It had the
most beautiful stain glass windows, I have ever seen.

We had a little Father's Day celebration for dinner at the campground. We gave Mike our "wrapped up" gifts and played Euchre while we ate olives, French loaf, pesto, and fruit. I think he was surprised that we managed to buy him some surprises.
When we got back to the campground, we decided to do the
laundry too. It would have been a lot
cheaper at our next place, but it was really a good idea to get it out of the way before we moved on to
Los Angeles. I think we will have enough
to worry about driving through L.A. without worrying about laundry.
Up Next: Los Angeles.
