Day 21 ~ Traveling from San Francisco via Lake Tahoe to Coleville, CA

Day 21~ Traveling from San Francisco via Lake Tahoe to Coleville, CA

Nothing much exciting today.  Big travel day.  We also need to get groceries.  We still have several shelf stable meals left, but have been without fresh fruit for several days.

I was inspired to get some supplies for a “Wine Tasting” dinner night.  This would include grape juice, French bread and pesto, a few cheeses, crackers,  avocados, and some cherries.  So….I said, I wonder how we can mix up some grape juice.  (Meaning from concentrate….)  Mike said, “Well, you could blindfold it and spin it around a few times and ask it where it is.  Or you could keep calling it orange juice over and over then call it grape juice……”  Ha ha.

Mike found a Walmart that would be backtracking to get to it, but not too far away.  The crapbag was that it turned out to be “Rensselaer, IN kind of Walmart” after taking all the time to find it and back track out of our way.  This means it only had a few groceries.  I didn’t even bother to get a few things because it would take me so long to find what they did or didn’t have that I figured we might as well go on and hope for one along the way, somewhere.

Mike saw a sign for one near Sacramento.  This one had groceries, but it was really laid out weirdly, so it didn’t match my pre-made list.  Plus, they were missing some of our key components for our meals.  All of this conspired to waste 2 hours instead of one.  Blah.

Mike and the kids went to get gas while I was getting groceries.  When Mike got back he said he was over the California People.  Soooooo……Rude!  When he pulled up to get gas, no one else was there.  Since the gas stations were in front of each other, he had to block the back tank with the camper in order to fill the car tank.  This man pulled up and acted all “attitude” and said, “Hey, can you move it, I want to put in gas!”  Mike was like all attitude back, “Look stupid!  Where would the hose go into my car if I moved it?!”  So then he took the time to go in and use the restroom.  On the way to pick me up at Walmart, he saw the parking lot was both ways in front of the doors, but didn’t realize they changed to one way alleys after he had already turned down one.  The lady coming up the alley, was like, “Hey, Move!  You’re going the wrong way!”  Mike was like “Sorry about that, my mistake, but obviously, I CAN’T back a trailer up the alley as easily as you could just turn out of my way!”  Not to mention the anger, hate, aggression, rude honking, and squealing tires (not at us….usually, anyway!) during rush hour in San Francisco.  The hate emanating from this mass of people is unbelievable.  I can’t wait for L.A.  I thought California was supposed to be laid back!

More driving.  Here is some scenery along the way.

We climbed a steep mountain, then found Lake Tahoe on the way down the other side! We had planned Lake Tahoe into our original plans, but couldn’t get reservations back in like, January or something. We saw why as we got close.  Tons of cars.
Lake Tahoe

Then after more twisty-turny roads and up and down mountains, we could see the tippy-top of the beautiful Sierra Nevadas.

Finally, we made it to the Coleville KOA.  This stop was mainly going to be a laundry stop.  It is so far out of the way and not much happening here.  Coleville is just a means to an end, Yosemite.  We had to find a fairly close alternate for Lake Tahoe.

Pros:

1.  The mountain cliff we camped under is pretty cool.

2.  The shower house is nicely landscaped.

3.  The people who run the campground are very nice.

4.  The whole campground is graveled…..easy to spot snakes and less dirt when trying to dry laundry.

5.  Up next:  The best part of Coleville was the ghost town that we decided to take the time to visit!

Stay Tuned!
